FG arraigns ex aviation minister Stella Oduah over alleged
Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado will not attend today’s award ceremony in Oslo because of a long standing travel ban imposed by President Nicolás Maduro’s government. The 58 year old has been barred from leaving Venezuela for about a decade and has been in hiding since August 2024, when authorities intensified a crackdown on opposition figures after a disputed election. The Norwegian Nobel Institute said it cancelled a planned press conference on Tuesday because Machado’s whereabouts and travel plans could not be confirmed. Officials stressed that the ceremony will still go ahead and will highlight the democratic struggle in Venezuela even in her absence.
