Troops quell communal violence, neutralise four militias in Taraba
Nigerian security forces have put down a fresh outbreak of communal violence in Taraba State, neutralising four armed militias in a decisive operation. The troops moved in after clashes erupted between rival groups in one of the state’s flashpoint communities, preventing what officials say could have been a far more devastating escalation. According to security sources, the operation combined ground troops with intelligence-led raids on suspected militia hideouts. Weapons were recovered and several suspects were arrested as soldiers fanned out across the area to stop reprisals and reopen key roads. The latest incident comes against the backdrop of recurring communal crises in Taraba, often tied to disputes over land, grazing routes and traditional authority.
