Amnesty International Slams FG Over School Attacks in Nigeria
Amnesty International has condemned the Nigerian authorities for failing to protect schoolchildren amid a wave of abductions in the North, including the recent kidnapping of 315 students and staff from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Niger State. Country Director Isa Sanusi stated that the attacks underscore persistent security gaps and repeated government failures to learn from past incidents. Sanusi noted that over 230 Northern children are currently in captivity, while hundreds of schools in states like Katsina and Plateau remain closed due to attacks. He warned that many children, especially girls, have been forced out of school or married off for safety.
