Wizkid’s son Champz shares inspirations behind record breaking debut EP
Champz, the 14 year old son of Nigerian music star Wizkid, has revealed the artists and sounds that inspired his debut EP, Champion’s Arrival. In an interview with Glitch Africa, he highlighted UK rappers and Afro fusion acts J Hus, Asko, Nines and Clavish as key influences on his music. Champz’s style blends Afro swing with UK drill, combining hard hitting flows with stories drawn from street life and youth culture. This fusion has helped him carve out a distinct sound despite his young age and famous background. Champion’s Arrival has made a strong impact since release, shooting to Number one on Apple Music Nigeria’s Top Albums chart within five hours. The project also crossed one million streams in its first 24 hours, marking an impressive breakthrough for the teenage rapper.
