Northern Politicians Launch Forum to Shape 2027 Election Strategy
A group of prominent northern political figures outside government has formed a new platform aimed at unifying the region’s stance ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election. Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal revealed the initiative on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today. The group, known as the Nigerian People’s Consultative Political Forum (North), brings together influential northern politicians who are not currently in public office. According to Lawal, the forum emerged from a series of strategy meetings among like-minded leaders concerned about divisions within the region. “We call this the Nigerian People’s Consultative Political Forum, North, in which almost every significant northern politician who is not in government attends our meetings,” he explained. “The idea is to bring unity to the north, study the causes of our disunity, and work out solutions.” […]
