World Cup play off: Super Eagles’ hopes fade as FIFA confirms DRC spot

Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup have suffered a final blow after world football body FIFA confirmed DR Congo as Africa’s representative in the inter confederation play off tournament. In a tournament accreditation notice and subsequent communications, FIFA listed DR Congo among the six teams that will compete in the play off, leaving no space for the Super Eagles, who had challenged their defeat to the Congolese side. Nigeria lost to DR Congo in the intercontinental play off final in Rabat, with the match ending 1–1 in regulation time before the Leopards won 4–3 on penalties to claim Africa’s last slot. Asake’s Lagos concert under fire over ₦300k ticket price

Afrobeats star Asake has come under intense criticism after flyers and online listings indicated that tickets for his planned Lagos concert were priced at around ₦300,000. The fee, believed to be for regular or standard access, quickly went viral and triggered a wave of angry reactions from fans on social media. Many Nigerians described the price as “ridiculous” and “tone‑deaf,” arguing that it effectively shuts out ordinary supporters at a time when people are struggling with inflation and rising living costs. Some users said they had attended previous Asake shows for far less and questioned why a local concert should now cost several months’ minimum wage. Commentary online also framed the concert as another example of big Nigerian events becoming exclusive gatherings for the wealthy. Critics urged promoters to create more reasonable tiers so that loyal grassroots fans can still […]

It was meant to project confidence and national pride, but has instead become associated with limp displays, missed chances and dropped points in key qualifiers and friendlies. For a footballing nation as passionate as Nigeria, repeated misfortune in the same jersey naturally feeds superstition. Some fans now […]
