FG Moves to Strengthen Health Financing, Cut Foreign Aid Reliance

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its plan to boost health financing by mobilising more domestic resources and reducing dependence on foreign aid. The goal is to make quality healthcare accessible to all Nigerians without pushing families into financial hardship. Free Dialysis Treatment Launched in 20 Hospitals Across Ghana.

Starting today, 20 health facilities nationwide will offer free dialysis treatment to kidney patients as part of a new initiative by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). Following a successful six-month pilot program, the NHIA will cover the cost of up to eight dialysis sessions per patient per month, with each session costing GH¢491.Hospitals involved include Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, and Tamale Teaching Hospital, among others. An additional 20 facilities are expected to join the program soon.The government has also partnered with the World Bank to supply 45 dialysis machines, with seven already delivered and more on the way. This initiative is projected to benefit 1,200 patients nationwide, ensuring greater access to life-saving treatment for kidney conditions.

Free Dialysis Services to Launch in 40 Facilities Starting December 1.

From December 1, 2024, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) will provide free dialysis services in 40 health facilities across Ghana. This move aims to relieve patients who struggle to afford the high cost of treatment, which ranges from GHC300 to GHC1,000 per session. NHIA CEO Dr. Dacosta Aboagye assured the public that the initiative is sustainable and will remain intact regardless of government changes.The NHIA plans to meet with facility heads on November 26 to finalize the rollout.
