Denmark Summons US Envoy Over Alleged Covert Ops in Greenland
Denmark’s foreign minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen has summoned the top US diplomat in Copenhagen following reports that American citizens have been carrying out covert operations in Greenland. According to Danish broadcaster DR, sources allege the operations aimed to infiltrate Greenlandic society and promote the territory’s secession from Denmark to the United States. The report did not clarify who the individuals were working for. Danish intelligence services have repeatedly warned that Greenland is a target for foreign influence campaigns because of its strategic location and natural resources. Rasmussen stressed that “any attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the Kingdom [of Denmark] will of course be unacceptable,” confirming that the US charge d’affaires had been summoned for explanations.
