Pakistan Strikes Kill Dozens in Afghanistan

Pakistan carried out multiple overnight air strikes across Afghanistan, killing at least 18 people, including women and children, according to the Taliban. Islamabad said the strikes targeted seven alleged militant camps near the border, following recent suicide bombings in Pakistan. The Afghan government condemned the attacks, saying civilian homes and a religious school were hit. The Taliban confirmed that strikes affected Nangarhar and Paktika provinces. In Girdi Kas village, only five members of a 23-person family survived the attacks, according to a local resident. A Taliban spokesperson confirmed 18 deaths in the family. Other areas, including Bermal and Urgun districts, were also hit, but no casualties were reported there as targeted buildings were empty. Over 800 Dead as Strong Earthquake Hits Afghanistan

Rescue efforts are underway in Afghanistan after a powerful earthquake and several aftershocks struck late Sunday night, killing more than 800 people and injuring thousands, according to Taliban authorities. The 6.0-magnitude quake hit just before midnight, with tremors felt as far away as Kabul and Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad. The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that over 1.2 million people likely experienced strong shaking. At least five aftershocks followed through the night. The worst-hit area was Kunar province, where about 800 people were confirmed dead and 2,500 injured.
