Iran Executes Alleged Top Israeli Spy After June War
Iran announced Monday it has executed a man accused of being one of Israel’s top spies, deepening tensions months after the two countries’ brief but devastating war. The judiciary’s Mizan Online reported that Bahman Choubi Asl was hanged after being convicted of working “closely” with Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence service. Officials said he had “privileged access to vital and sovereign databases” inside the Islamic republic but did not specify when he was arrested. The execution comes in the wake of the 12-day conflict in June, when unprecedented Israeli airstrikes hit Iranian military, government, and nuclear sites, killing senior officers, nuclear scientists, and civilians.
