Alleged N8.7b fraud: Court grants Malami, wife, son N200m bail each

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, his wife Asabe Bashir and his son Abdulaziz in the alleged N8.7 billion fraud case filed against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The trio are accused of laundering about N8.7 billion through the purchase of properties in Abuja and other parts of Nigeria while Malami served as Minister of Justice. They have all pleaded not guilty to the amended charges. Court clears Abba Kyari in asset non declaration case

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed the non declaration of assets case filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency against suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari and his two brothers. Delivering judgment, Justice James Omotosho held that the NDLEA failed to provide sufficient and credible evidence to prove that Kyari owned the properties and funds listed in the charge sheet. The judge ruled that the prosecution did not tender documents clearly linking Kyari to several properties in Abuja and Maiduguri, or to the bank accounts said to contain over N207 million and 17,598 euros. He noted that under the law, ownership of landed property must be proved through title documents, traditional history or clear acts of possession, but the NDLEA did not meet this requirement in court.
