Passport fee reduction to take effect after Parliamentary approval – Minister

Although the government had announced a 30 per cent cut in the cost of an ordinary passport, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, clarified in a Facebook post that the new fee will only take effect when Parliament reconvenes. The revised fee is part of a broader set of passport reforms scheduled to begin on Monday, April 28, 2025, but the price change remains subject to legislative approval. Mr Ablakwa had earlier informed Parliament on March 13, 2025, that the reduction was in response to public concerns over affordability.
