Nollywood actor Stanley Amandi held over alleged coup plot
Nollywood actor and director Stanley Amandi has been arrested alongside several military officers over an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government. A source in the Actors Guild of Nigeria said Amandi, a former chairman of the guild’s Enugu State chapter, was picked up in September 2025. He was allegedly recruited by the suspected plotters to work as a media propagandist and help drive their messages. According to government officials familiar with the probe, the accused officers are believed to have planned a violent seizure of power. President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas were reportedly marked for assassination.
