ICPC files criminal case against Mike Ozekhome over UK property

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has filed a three-count criminal charge against senior lawyer Mike Ozekhome over an alleged fraudulent attempt to acquire a property in the United Kingdom. The case is linked to a London property located at 79 Randall Avenue, Neasden, London NW2, which was the subject of a 2025 judgment by the UK First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber). The tribunal described the move to transfer the property to Ozekhome as being built on a network of fraud, impersonation and forged documents. According to court documents, prosecutors allege that Ozekhome received the London house in or around August 2021 from a man identified as Shani Tali, knowing that the transfer amounted to a felony. The alleged offence is said to contravene Section 13 and is punishable under Section 24 of the Corrupt Practices and Other […]

Calls grow for referendum amid dispute over Constitution reform

A renewed push for a referendum in Nigeria’s Constitution has sparked nationwide debate among legal experts, civil society groups, and regional organisations. Many describe the current system as elite-driven and undemocratic, calling for a people-endorsed Constitution that reflects true national consensus. Under the current arrangement, amendments require the support of two-thirds of both chambers of the National Assembly and at least two-thirds of state Houses of Assembly. Critics argue that this legislative process excludes the citizens whose lives the laws govern. Groups such as Afenifere, Yoruba Ronu, PANDEF, and […]

London tribunal dismisses ownership claim on Useni-linked property

A London First-Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) has dismissed an ownership claim on a property allegedly linked to the late General Jeremiah Useni, Nigeria’s former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The case was brought by one Tali Shani, who challenged human rights lawyer Chief Mike Ozekhome’s attempt to register ownership of the property at 79 Randall Avenue, London, which he said had been gifted to him by Gen. Useni. The tribunal struck out the case after finding that the applicant “likely never existed” and had relied on forged documents, including fake identity papers and a death certificate. Background Chief Ozekhome applied in August 2021 to register a transfer of the property, purportedly signed by “Tali Shani.” But before registration was completed, someone claiming to be Shani appeared before the tribunal, denying knowledge of the transfer and insisting she was the […]
