Ghana miners launch taskforce to fight illegal mining
The National Concerned Small-Scale Miners Association, Ghana (NCSSMAG), has inaugurated an Anti-Galamsey Taskforce to intensify the fight against illegal mining on rivers and streams nationwide. The taskforce is mandated to monitor members’ operations, enforce compliance, and promote responsible mining practices. It will also conduct peer reviews to ensure accountability and adherence to industry standards. To enhance operations, NCSSMAG has deployed taskforces across major mining areas and procured a mini speedboat to patrol water bodies. The initiative supports the government’s Blue Water Guards program under the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, which aims to safeguard Ghana’s rivers from destructive mining practices.
