Oyo Road Protest Over Extension Leaves Motorists Stranded
Motorists were left stranded in Ibadan as thousands of residents affected by the Ibadan Circular Road Corridor project staged a peaceful protest against the proposed road extension. The demonstration began at the Ibadan-Ife road, causing a major traffic jam, with protesters later marching through Idi-Ape to the State Secretariat, Agodi. Protesters, carrying placards and banners, demanded that the Oyo State Government stick to the original 150-metre corridor marked by ex-Governor Rashidi Ladoja, rather than expanding it—fearing more houses and community land will be affected. They insisted the protest was non-partisan and not sponsored by politicians. Over 100 impacted communities, spanning seven local governments, participated in the protest.
