INEC moves ward level voter registration for 2027 polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Lagos says it will move its Continuous Voter Registration from local government offices to wards on a rotational basis ahead of the 2027 elections. Lagos Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof Ayobami Salami, told stakeholders at a meeting on the second phase of the CVR that the plan is to reduce voter apathy and make registration easier for eligible residents. He said CVR remains one of INEC’s most important duties because it allows Nigerians to register, transfer their registration, correct details and replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards. Institute Seeks Regulatory Commission to Fix Nigeria’s Ailing Courier, Logistics Sector

Professor Simon Emeje, Chairman of the Courier and Logistics Management Institute (CLMI), has called for the urgent establishment of an independent regulatory commission to reposition Nigeria’s courier and logistics industry. Despite being Africa’s largest economy, Nigeria is among less than 3% of countries without such independent regulation, leaving the industry plagued by inconsistent tariffs, conflicting policies, and a harsh business climate. Emeje warned that stagnant regulation forces firms to close or shift sectors and lamented overlapping controls from customs and other agencies. He emphasized the need for technical, not political, oversight and expanded professional training in logistics. He noted the sector’s economic potential (valued at $60 billion, with assets up to ₦20 trillion) and called for logistics education in universities. Emeje also highlighted the long-delayed regulatory bill, drafted in 2005 but never enacted, and urged Nigeria to boost intra-African trade […]

RTI Commission Flags Staffing, Logistics Gaps at 5th Anniversary

At the launch of its 5th-anniversary celebration in Accra, the Executive Secretary of Ghana’s Right to Information (RTI) Commission, Genevieve Shirley Lartey Esq., raised pressing concerns about the Commission’s limited capacity to effectively fulfill its mandate due to significant staffing and logistical constraints. Despite operating four regional offices—in Accra (head office), Bono, Ashanti, and Upper East—the Commission continues to operate with a small team and scant resources, relying heavily on external partners to sustain its functions. Lartey emphasized the urgent need for additional resources, including logistics and financial support, to ensure continued functionality and efficiency across all offices. Plans are in progress to open additional regional branches in the Northern and Central regions, with another yet-to-be-named region slated before the end of 2025. To guarantee nationwide coverage, areas without an RTI office will be grouped under existing zonal structures. Speaking […]
