Bandits kill 5 soldiers, 10 villagers in Zamfara ambush
Armed bandits have killed five soldiers and 10 villagers in Lilo Village, Mada District of Gusau Local Government Area, Zamfara State. Community leaders, speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) press centre in Gusau on Wednesday, said the tragedy struck on Monday when troops were escorting traders to Gusau market. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers laid an ambush along the Lilo–Gulubba Road, opening fire on the convoy. Soldiers responded, triggering heavy gunfire in which five troops and about 10 traders lost their lives. One survivor recounted how he escaped by hiding in the bush and pretending to be dead. He said scores of bandits were also killed during the exchange.
