members of the Sunyani Municipal Branch of the Ghana National Association of Garages, along with affected farmers, staged a peaceful protest demanding compensation for land taken for the Newmont Ahafo North Project.The protestors blocked part of the road diversion project at Afrisipakrom using buses and stones, urging authorities to address their compensation claims. The road diversion, funded by Newmont Africa and constructed by Alexiboam, is part of the larger Newmont Ahafo North Project.Since 2021, when their lands were taken for the project, the protestors claim they have not received any compensation.
