Forest Mining: L.I. 2462 to Remove Presidential Power in Granting Mining Licenses Laid Before Parliament

The Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2462 was officially laid before the House on March 20, 2025, following a series of procedural disagreements earlier in the week.The instrument is designed to strip the President of the power to approve mining activities in forest reserves, a move intended to address illegal small-scale mining activities, commonly known as galamsey.Earlier this week, the introduction of the L.I. faced challenges.
