Tamale Teaching Hospital Completes First Successful Knee Replacement Surgery.

The Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) has successfully performed its first total knee replacement surgery, marking a significant advancement in orthopedic care in northern Ghana. The groundbreaking surgery, conducted on September 13, was led by Dr. Alatiga John Abanga and his Orthopedic Surgery team.The patient, a 58-year-old woman, had been suffering from severe knee pain for over three years prior to the surgery. In a statement released on September 19 via social media, TTH highlighted this achievement as part of its growing expertise in complex orthopedic procedures, having already conducted successful total hip replacements in the past.Dr. Abanga urged Ghanaians experiencing knee or hip pain to seek treatment at TTH, especially encouraging Muslims in Northern Ghana to address mobility issues that may affect their religious practices, such as praying.
