Five killed as tanker crushes schoolchildren’s tricycle in Bayelsa
Five people, including four schoolchildren and a tricycle driver, have been killed after a fuel tanker crushed a Keke Napep in Ibelebiri community, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The crash happened on Wednesday afternoon along the Ibelebiri section of the Yenegwe–Okarki–Otuasega road, throwing the mainly farming and fishing community into mourning. Eyewitnesses said the victims were returning from school when the tanker, suspected to have suffered brake failure, veered off the road and rammed into the parked tricycle. The children were pupils of a school in nearby Otuasega, and the Keke driver, a family member, usually took them home. One of the pupils had already crossed the road into their compound when the tanker, bearing an NNPC logo, hit the tricycle and crushed those still inside before they could escape.
