Tinubu to opposition: Elections not won on social media

President Bola Tinubu has told opposition figures and party supporters that elections are decided by voters in communities, not by debates on social media. He spoke through Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Renewed Hope Ambassadors Strategic Summit in Abuja. Tinubu urged members of the All Progressives Congress to take government policies and messages directly to wards, markets, campuses and other grassroots areas. He said this face to face engagement is vital for countering misinformation and building trust ahead of the 2027 elections. The President also called for peace within the party in Benue State. He appealed to Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to reconcile with Governor Hyacinth Alia so that APC leaders in the state can work together on security and development. Tinubu praised Akume’s long public service career and […]

Dangote predicts naira could strengthen to ₦1,100/$1 in 2026

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, says the naira could appreciate to around ₦1,100 to the US dollar before the end of 2026 if current government policies and import controls are sustained. He spoke in Abuja during the launch of the Nigeria Industrial Policy, attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima and top private sector leaders. Dangote noted that although the naira is currently trading around ₦1,300–₦1,340 on the official market, recent reforms are already easing pressure on the currency. He argued that blocking “reckless” imports that can be produced locally, alongside tighter foreign exchange management, will help further strengthen the naira. “I can assure you that, with what I know, by blocking all this importation, the currency this year will be as low as ₦1,100 if we are lucky,” he said, while suggesting government might even need to slow the naira’s […]

2027: Musawa warns APC against dropping Northern Muslim running mate

Minister of Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against altering President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential ticket in a way that removes a Northern Muslim running mate. She said such a move could cost the ruling party vital support across the core North. Speaking on Seun Okinbaloye’s Mic On Show, Musawa addressed debates over reviewing the Muslim–Muslim ticket used in 2023. She argued that dropping Vice President Kashim Shettima or replacing him with a non‑Northern Muslim would create serious political complications, given regional sensitivities. “If there is no Hausa, Fulani or Kanuri Muslim on that ticket, it creates a hurdle. That is the reality of the way people think,” she said, stressing that electoral politics in the North is shaped by long‑standing social and political structures. She listed Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Kebbi, […]

Dangote refinery will make Nigeria net fuel exporter – Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima says the Dangote Refinery is positioning Nigeria to become a net exporter of refined petroleum products after decades as a net importer of value. Speaking at a High level Accra Reset Initiative meeting on the sidelines of the 2026 World Economic Forum in Davos, he said Africa’s prosperity must be homegrown, built on innovation, industry and interdependence rather than external aid. Shettima cited the Lagos based Dangote Refinery as proof of what happens “when African capital meets industrial ambition,” noting that it is gradually turning Nigeria into a major exporter of fuel. He argued that matching production with infrastructure and clear policies can move nations from being price takers to value makers in global markets. According to him, only by building domestic productive capacity can African countries convert their large populations and natural endowments into real, […]
