FG Secures N250bn for Kaduna, Kano Light Rail Projects

The Federal Government has secured N250 billion to fund light rail projects in Kaduna and Kano States, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, announced on Monday in Abuja. Speaking at a world press conference, Idris said President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to balanced and inclusive development across all regions. He explained that N150 billion has been secured for the Kano project, while N100 billion is allocated to Kaduna. “Contrary to the perception in some quarters, this administration has demonstrated uncommon commitment to equitable development since assuming office,” Idris said. “No zone is taking a back seat. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 502,280 opioid pills in coordinated raids across Nasarawa, Gombe, Kano, and Maiduguri, the agency announced on Sunday in Abuja. The Kano State Police Command has arrested two men in connection with a burglary and recovered stolen goods, including 23 mobile phones, three Point-of-Sale (PoS) machines, and other items in Gezawa Local Government Area (LGA). The suspects, 25-year-old Umar Aliyu and 27-year-old Sabiu Kabiru, both residents of Gunduwawa village in the LGA, were arrested on August 7, 2025, following a tip-off to the Special Intervention Squad (SIS). Kano to Empower 1.5 Million Youths with Digital Skills

The Kano State Government has announced plans to empower 1.5 million young people with digital literacy and skills between 2025 and 2027, as part of efforts to reduce unemployment and boost economic productivity. The initiative will be driven by the Kano State Information Technology Development Agency (KASITDA) in partnership with the KALM Community Initiative (KCI), a non-governmental organization. APC Wins Ghari/Tsanyawa By-Election in Kano

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the state assembly by-election in the Ghari/Tsanyawa constituency of Kano State. Announcing the results on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Prof. Muhammad Waziri of Bayero University, declared the APC candidate, Garba Gwarmai, winner after he secured 31,472 votes. His closest rival, Yusuf Ali Maigado of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), polled 27,931 votes. By-election: Kano Police Pledge Maximum Security for Voters

The Kano State Police Command has assured residents of full security during Saturday’s bye-elections in Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa. Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, said on Friday that all security agencies in the state were working together to ensure the elections are peaceful and free from violence.
