US never targeted me in Sokoto airstrikes, says Gumi

Kaduna based Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has dismissed reports that he was targeted by the United States during recent joint Nigeria US airstrikes on terrorist camps in Sokoto State. He described the claims as fake news, explaining that people had misinterpreted an old video in which he spoke about threats to his life more than a decade ago.​ Gumi said the viral clip being shared online referred to an incident in August 2012, when he was allegedly marked for assassination by Boko Haram near his residence.
