Gov’t Cuts Independence Day Costs by 90%, Moves Event to Jubilee House
The government has significantly reduced the cost of Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebrations, slashing expenses to just a tenth of last year’s budget.Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced that the move aligns with efforts to cut unnecessary spending and redirect funds to crucial sectors.For the first time, the event will be held at Jubilee House instead of a regional capital, minimizing logistical expenses. The number of participants has also been reduced from nearly 3,600 to just over 500, including security personnel and schoolchildren.Last year’s event in Koforidua cost GH₵15 million, but this year’s scaled-down version will be significantly cheaper.
