The price of cowhide, commonly known as wele, has sharply increased in Accra, affecting both food vendors and consumers of the popular delicacy. The cost of a single piece of wele, which used to sell at GH¢3, now ranges between GH¢5 and GH¢25 in local eateries. Wholesalers in markets like Agbogbloshie and Kaneshie explained that the rise in import costs, high import duties, and exchange rate fluctuations have driven the price hike.
