Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane dies at 53 after ALS battle
American actor Eric Dane, best known for his role as Dr Mark Sloan in Grey’s Anatomy, has died at the age of 53 after a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. His family announced that he passed away on Thursday afternoon, less than a year after publicly revealing his diagnosis. Dane disclosed in April 2025 that he had been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, a progressive nervous system condition that affects the brain and spinal cord and gradually weakens muscles needed for movement, speech and breathing.
