Shai Osudoku District Hospital Handles 382 Neonatal Cases Yearly, Highlights Prematurity Challenges.
Shai Osudoku District Hospital in Dodowa, Greater Accra, addresses an average of 382 neonatal cases annually, with 56 involving preterm births, according to Dr. Kennedy T.C. Brightson, the hospital's Medical Superintendent. The hospital faces significant challenges such as infections, pregnancy-induced hypertension, gestational diabetes, high-stress levels, and the use of herbal concoctions, all of which contribute to premature deliveries.During a public durbar marking "World Prematurity Day 2024," Dr. Brightson shared the hospital's need for better equipment, such as incubators and phototherapy machines, to manage neonatal cases effectively.
