Fire Incidents Surge by 6.43% in Ghana — GNFS Reports.

Ghana experienced a 6.43% increase in fire cases this year, rising from 5,258 in 2023 to 5,596 in 2024, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). The spike was largely attributed to harsh harmattan conditions early in the year. Fire incidents peaked in February with 917 cases but dropped significantly in March and July before climbing again in November due to public non-compliance with fire safety guidelines.Chief Fire Officer Julius Kuunuor commended public efforts, noting that 30% of fires were extinguished by citizens, thanks to GNFS's awareness campaigns.
