Bride survives as 19 wedding guests die in Zamfara bridge collapse
At least 19 people died on Saturday when a commercial bus carrying a bride and her wedding guests plunged into a river while attempting to cross a collapsed bridge between Gwalli village and Gummi town in Zamfara State. The victims were travelling from Fass village (Gummi LGA) to Kebbi State to hand over the bride after her wedding ceremony. How the tragedy happened Eyewitnesses said the driver, unfamiliar with the terrain, tried to navigate the damaged bridge, which locals had patched with sandbags and stones, when the bus slipped and overturned into the river.
