Gov’t Disburses GH¢809M to Pokuase–Nsawam Highway Contractor
Ghana’s Controller and Accountant-General, Mr. Kwasi Agyei, has confirmed that the government has fully paid GH¢809 million to the contractor handling the Pokuase–Nsawam Highway project—Maripoma Enterprise Limited—allowing work to resume on this critical stretch. The payments were disbursed in stages, with the first tranche issued on July 24, followed by another on July 30, and the final installment on August 4, 2025—fully satisfying the contractual request. This confirmation brings relief to frustrated commuters who have endured prolonged delays and congestion. Significantly, the return of the contractor to the site coincides with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) suspending its planned strike. The union had threatened to halt services starting August 20 unless repairs began promptly. The government's timely settlement has thus helped avert transportation disruption and underscores its commitment to maintaining critical infrastructure and public confidence.
