UN Warns of Rising Violence Against Women and Girls in Sudan

The United Nations agency for women, UN Women, has raised alarm over the growing violence against women, girls, and civilians in and around El Fasher, North Darfur, Sudan. In a statement, the agency described the situation as catastrophic, noting that women and girls have faced siege, bombardment, and starvation for more than 500 days. Reports indicate that about 300,000 women and girls—half of the 575,000 people trapped in the city—are surviving on animal feed and leaves amid severe hunger and insecurity.
