Teddy Osei, the legendary Ghanaian saxophonist and founding member of the Afro-rock band Osibisa, has passed away at the age of 88 in London on January 14, 2025. The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons, confirmed the news.Born in Kumasi in 1937, Osei was renowned for leading Osibisa, the iconic band founded in 1969. His journey into music began at a young age, and he self-taught himself the saxophone. Despite challenges, including a disrupted education due to political upheaval, Osei rose to prominence in the international music scene. Osibisa's fusion of Afro-beat and rock music made them famous, and their legacy endures.
