FDA to inspect school food vendors in Central Region

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Central Region has announced plans to inspect the certifications of food vendors in schools to ensure that pupils are served safe and healthy meals. Regional Director of the FDA, Francisca Anokye, said the initiative is aimed at preventing uncertified vendors from operating in schools, a move she believes will protect children from foodborne illnesses. She revealed this during a food safety training programme held in Cape Coast for School Health Education Promoters (SHEP). The programme was organised in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and forms part of broader efforts to improve food safety practices. Oti Region Prosecutes 100 for Sanitation Offenses Amid Typhoid Surge

More than 100 people have been prosecuted in the Krachi East municipality of the Oti Region for flouting sanitation by-laws. The Oti Regional Environmental and Sanitation Taskforce brought the offenders before the Dambai District Magistrate Court on charges ranging from indiscriminate dumping of refuse to poor sanitation practices and open defecation. The crackdown follows a surge in typhoid fever cases in the region, with over 23,000 infections recorded in the first half of 2025, largely traced to poor hygiene and unsafe water sources. Regional Environmental Health Prosecutor Patrick K. Gbafa said the prosecutions are intended to protect public health, not merely punish. Offenders received fines between GH¢600 and GH¢840.44, while landlords without toilet facilities were ordered to provide them within three months or risk prosecution. Kpetoe Market Gets Modern Health Facility to End Services Under Trees.

The residents of Kpetoe Market Center can now access healthcare in a modern facility, thanks to Hon. Charles Agbeve, MP for Agortime Ziope. Previously, health services were delivered under mango trees due to the absence of proper infrastructure. The new NHIS-funded health post, completed in three months, includes delivery and retention beds, OPD equipment, and electronic tools. Hon. Agbeve, who commissioned the facility on November 15, 2024, pledged further upgrades, including 24-hour services and additional amenities. Supported by World Vision International and other stakeholders, this CHPS compound will significantly improve healthcare delivery in the district.

Seven Rabies Deaths Recorded in Upper East Region Amid Calls for Increased Pet Vaccination.

Seven people in the Upper East Region have died from rabies this year, out of nine suspected cases, according to local health authorities. These figures were revealed during the World Rabies Day event in Bolgatanga, themed “Breaking Rabies Boundaries.”Collins Yin, a Health Promotion Officer, noted that the Bolgatanga Municipal recorded three suspected cases, resulting in one death. In Bongo District, all three suspected cases were fatal, and Garu District also saw two suspected rabies cases, both leading to deaths. Nabdam District recorded one case, which also ended in the victim’s death.Yin urged the public to vaccinate their pets, especially dogs, to prevent future rabies deaths, emphasizing that vaccination could prevent these fatalities.
