Gold Board CEO denies galamsey claims, backs anti-mining fight

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has dismissed suggestions that the newly established body is promoting illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey. “Let me clear some misconceptions that GoldBod is promoting galamsey. And my simple question to them is: how can a five-month-old statutory corporation be responsible for an age-long problem?” he said on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, during a discussion on the government’s fight against illegal mining. Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has rejected claims that the newly established institution is encouraging illegal mining by purchasing galamsey gold. “To create the impression that nobody was buying galamsey gold and all of a sudden GoldBod is now giving it a market is clearly wrong,” he said on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show during a discussion on the government’s fight against illegal mining.
