MoMo Vendors Urged to Boost Security Amid Rising Attacks

The Electronic Money Issuers (EMIs) Chamber of Ghana has called on mobile money (MoMo) agents to prioritize their safety due to increasing violent attacks on vendors nationwide.In February alone, three MoMo agents were killed in separate attacks. A vendor in Manso-Asamang, Ashanti Region, was shot while returning home. Another in Dormaa West was also attacked and killed, while a third vendor in Kumasi was shot as assailants stole GH¢10,000.Authorities have arrested five suspects in connection with one of the killings, but fear remains high among vendors.The EMIs Chamber is urging MoMo agents to close early, avoid carrying large cash amounts, install security systems, and collaborate with the police for protection. The chamber is also engaging the government and financial authorities to improve safety measures and debunk misconceptions that MoMo agents hold large sums of cash.

American Woman Jailed 10 Years in Ghana for Bolt Driver Robbery.

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Skylah Leeann Marine Travis, an American woman, to 10 years of imprisonment with hard labor for robbing a Bolt driver. Her Liberian fiancé, Daniel Ireland, was also sentenced to the same term after pleading guilty to conspiracy, robbery, and stabbing the victim.The incident occurred on January 7, 2025, when the couple hired the driver to transport them from Labadi to Teshie Malik in Accra. Upon arrival, Ireland stabbed the driver multiple times and the couple fled with his car, two phones, and GHC1,000 cash. Three Armed Robbers Jailed 125 Years for Attacking Lotto Company Boss.

Three individuals have been handed a total of 125 years in prison for their roles in an armed robbery attack on Mr. Makafui Atsu Kumordzi, the Director of Makafui and Son’s Limited, a lotto business in Ayitikope, Akatsi South Municipality, Volta Region.The convicted men, Nzete Chukunhru Best, 28, Mark Billy Agbozo (aka Teacher), 31, and Ernest Sokpi Amevor (aka Peace Maker), 32, faced charges of robbery, conspiracy, and abetment.
