Hyundai Georgia ICE Raid Nearly 500 Workers Arrested in Historic Immigration Sweep
US immigration authorities have arrested nearly 500 foreign workers in what officials describe as one of the largest workplace raids in Homeland Security’s history. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said 475 people, mostly South Korean citizens, were found working illegally at a Hyundai battery plant in Georgia on Thursday. Officials said the majority had entered the US on short-term visitor visas that do not authorize employment. “People on short-term or recreational visas are not authorized to work in the US,” ICE said. “This raid was necessary to protect American jobs.” The detained workers are being held at an ICE facility in Folkston, Georgia, while officials determine their next steps.
