Double-Track System in Ghana’s SHS to End by 2027 – Education Minister

Ghana’s double-track system in senior high schools is set to be scrapped by 2027, according to the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu. The announcement was made during a meeting with the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) in Sunyani, Bono Region.Haruna Iddrisu stated that the government is committed to educational reform, and the elimination of the double-track system will be supported by major changes such as a revised curriculum and administrative restructuring of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). Thugs Steal Food Supplies for Schools in Northern Region.

A group of unidentified criminals raided the Buffer Stock Company warehouse in Ghana's Northern Region, stealing over 150 bags of maize and other food supplies meant for Senior High Schools (SHS). Bawumia Pledges New District for Sefwi-Wiawso to Spur Growth.

Improved Pass Rates in Upper East Region Credit Free SHS Program.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his satisfaction with the success of Ghana's Free Senior High School (SHS) program. Since its introduction, more than 100,000 students who previously couldn’t access secondary education have now enrolled. Akufo-Addo emphasized that, despite early criticism, the policy has expanded opportunities for secondary and tertiary education. In the Upper East Region, the pass rates for core subjects such as mathematics, English, and science have significantly increased, with mathematics scores jumping from 52% in 2021 to 89.65% last year. The president reaffirmed his belief in prioritizing human capital development and called the program’s success a vindication of his administration’s efforts.
