Hakimi to face trial over rape allegation, denies charge

Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi is set to stand trial in France over a rape allegation. He has firmly denied the accusation in a post on social media. In a message on X, Hakimi said that a simple allegation is now enough to send someone to trial, even when they deny it and believe the claim is false. He described the situation as unfair both to innocent people and to real victims of sexual violence. Hakimi added that he is waiting calmly for the trial, which he believes will allow the truth to be heard in public. Prosecutors in Nanterre, near Paris, opened an investigation into the rape claim in 2023 after a complaint was filed against the player. The prosecutor’s office has not yet commented on the latest development about the trial.

Pogba Returns in Monaco Loss as PSG Stay Top in France

Paul Pogba made his long-awaited return to competitive football in Monaco’s 4-1 defeat to Rennes, marking his first appearance in over two years after battling injuries, a doping ban, and an extortion plot. Entering as a late substitute, Pogba received a warm ovation from both sets of fans and expressed deep gratitude to supporters. Pogba’s ban, shortened from four years to 18 months after a failed drug test, ended in March. Monaco signed him after his Juventus contract was terminated following legal and disciplinary trouble. Despite Monaco's heavy loss, Pogba focused on his fitness goals and the challenge ahead. Paris Saint-Germain extended their Ligue 1 lead with a 3-0 home win over Le Havre, reclaiming top spot. Lens and Marseille also earned wins, with Mason Greenwood netting twice to become the league’s top scorer.
