Mark mourns founding editor of Newswatch magazine, Yakubu Mohammed
Former Senate President David Mark has joined other prominent Nigerians in mourning veteran journalist and Newswatch magazine co founder, Yakubu Mohammed, who died at 75. Mohammed, a pioneering editor and media administrator, passed away in Lagos after a brief illness, just months after fellow Newswatch co founder Dan Agbese died in November 2025. In his condolence message, Mark described Mohammed as one of the pillars of modern Nigerian journalism whose work at Newswatch redefined investigative reporting during the military era. He said the late editor used his pen to promote accountability, good governance and national unity over several decades.
