Spain pick Chattanooga as 2026 World Cup training base

Spain will be based in the US city of Chattanooga during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Spanish Football Federation has announced. The city is about two hours from Atlanta, where Spain will play two of their three group matches. Chattanooga, a riverside city of around 190,000 people in the state of Tennessee, will host the European champions throughout the group stage. The federation said Luis de la Fuente’s team will lodge at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Chattanooga Downtown and train at the nearby Baylor School facilities. Spain, who won the World Cup in 2010, are currently ranked number one in the world by FIFA and are among the favourites for the expanded tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States. Nigeria’s Super Falcons have slipped one place to 37th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking but remain the highest ranked team in Africa. The ranking, released on Thursday, reflects movements on the global table after the last international window.​ The Super Falcons were previously 36th in the world before dropping to 37th, ending a run of several months in that position.
