Unizik Qualifies for 2026 World University Games in Egypt
Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) has qualified to represent Nigeria at the 2026 World University Games in Egypt. This follows the female football and volleyball teams’ successful performance at the 27th Nigeria University Games (NUGA), held at the University of Jos. Unizik participated in eight events, including taekwondo and athletics, with both women’s teams placing among the top three and earning eligibility for the global event. New Vice Chancellor Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie praised the athletes for acting as good ambassadors and promised more support for sports talent at the university. Athletes spoke about overcoming challenges from travel and weather, emphasizing teamwork and university spirit. Officials described the 95 percent performance rating as proof Unizik remains a team to beat despite not taking the overall trophy.
