FCTA, Oyo launch free HIV tests for World AIDS Day

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has announced free HIV counselling and testing as part of activities marking the 2025 World AIDS Day, with a call for stronger community participation in this year’s commemoration. Officials said the observance, themed “Overcoming Disruption: Sustaining Nigeria’s HIV Response,” will focus on public engagement and shared responsibility.​ In a statement by Mrs Bola Ajao, Special Assistant to the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, the Secretariat outlined plans for a one-day symposium in Abuja on 2 December. Abuja waste contractors threaten strike over 9 months unpaid wages

Contractors responsible for waste management in Abuja have threatened to down tools from September 25 if the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) fails to settle nine months of outstanding payments. In a letter to the Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, the Association of FCT Solid Waste and Cleaning Contractors (AFSOWAC) said it could no longer guarantee uninterrupted sanitation services without urgent intervention. Essential services at risk AFSOWAC represents contractors overseeing 44 sanitation lots across the FCT, collectively clearing more than 1,000 tonnes of waste daily with over 100 refuse trucks and 60 tippers. Taskforce Halts Building, Demolishes Illegal Structures at Abuja Estate

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Ministerial Task Force has stopped ongoing construction at the disputed River Park Estate in Lugbe, Abuja, arresting workers who allegedly violated a subsisting Abuja High Court order. The court had earlier directed parties to maintain the status quo pending resolution of ownership and development rights within the estate. On Wednesday, officials of the task force, backed by security agencies, moved into the estate to enforce compliance. Several workers found on site were taken into custody for disregarding the stop-work order. In addition, the FCT Administration demolished over 30 illegal substructures, citing breaches of planning regulations. Authorities said the affected developers had continued work despite the withdrawal of their lease agreements and a ministerial recommendation that undeveloped plots revert to the government. FCTA promotes 49 deputy directors to directors

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has promoted 49 Deputy Directors to the rank of Director across various departments, moving from Grade Level 16 to 17. The promotions followed the approval of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike after the release of results from the administration’s first-ever computer-based promotion examination. The exam was held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the National Open University’s Duste-Alhaji Study Centre in Bwari Area Council. According to a statement by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, the exercise was designed to clear promotion backlogs from 2023 to 2025 for officers on Grade Level 16.
