FCT Doctors Threaten Strike Over Colleague’s Kidnapping
Members of the Nigerian Medical Association in the Federal Capital Territory have threatened to shut down all medical services and stage a protest if their colleague, Dr. Chinonye Nwachukwu, is not released from kidnappers’ custody. Dr. Nwachukwu, who recently returned from studying in Ukraine to work at Garki Hospital in Abuja, has been held by kidnappers for 16 days. Despite reporting the abduction to agencies like the Department of State Security and the FCT Police, the doctors say no effective action has been taken to secure her release. The NMA’s FCT President, Dr. Emeka Ayogu, said that unless prompt rescue actions are initiated, doctors in Abuja will have no choice but to withdraw their services or protest peacefully.
