Plateau residents lament as serial attacks kill 19, farmlands abandoned

Residents of Plateau State say their communities are turning into wastelands as renewed attacks by gunmen leave more people dead and drive farmers off their lands. At least 19 people were recently killed in coordinated night raids on Manja community in Chakfem kingdom of Mangu Local Government Area and Tangur community in Bokkos Local Government Area. Witnesses said the attackers arrived around 8 pm, shooting into homes and forcing residents to flee into the bush, with many women and children among the dead. Ghana Cocoa Farmers and Clerks Count Losses After Price Reduction

Some cocoa purchasing clerks and farmers in the Upper West Akyem Municipality say they are facing serious financial losses following the government’s recent reduction in cocoa prices. The clerks explained that delays in the release of funds from the Ghana Cocoa Board forced many of them to take bank loans to buy cocoa beans from farmers. Because a portion of the beans was purchased at the previous price, they now fear they will struggle to absorb the difference and repay their loans under the new pricing structure. According to them, the situation has created growing tension in several farming communities. Some farmers have reportedly refused to sell their cocoa at the current price, arguing that it does not reflect the cost of production. The concerns were shared with journalists during a press conference held in Koforidua, where both clerks and […]

His comments respond to concerns from farmers in several communities who say they are struggling to find buyers despite producing food in record quantities. Speaking on Citi FM on Wednesday, Mr Opoku said the challenge is not isolated but part of a nationwide outcome driven by the government’s intervention. “The farmers in many parts of the country are complaining that they have produced in quantities beyond the market, and they are not getting buyers. In Asunafo South, for example, the youth who participated in the Feed Ghana Programme told me they have been harvesting rice in large volumes and are looking for a market. What we are seeing is a nationwide bumper […]
