US lifts Caribbean airspace curbs after Venezuela strike

The United States has lifted temporary airspace restrictions over parts of the Caribbean that were imposed during the military operation in Venezuela which led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro.Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on X that the curbs would expire at midnight Eastern Time, allowing airlines to start resuming normal schedules once flight plans are updated. The Federal Aviation Administration had earlier ordered U.S. commercial carriers to avoid Caribbean airspace near Venezuela, citing a potentially hazardous situation linked to ongoing military activity. The move forced airlines to cancel or reroute hundreds of flights across the region, disrupting travel to and from destinations such as Puerto Rico, Aruba and other popular Caribbean hubs. Major U.S. airlines, including American, Delta, United, Southwest, JetBlue and Frontier, issued waivers allowing affected passengers to rebook without fees or fare differences on later dates.Carriers have […]

US Flights to Return to Normal After Restrictions Lifted

US flights will return to normal schedules on Monday morning after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) lifted flight reductions that had been imposed during the recent government shutdown. President Donald Trump signed a bill to end the shutdown, with the FAA announcing that “normal operations can resume” from 6 am Washington time on Monday. Transport Secretary Sean Duffy said the focus will now shift to hiring more controllers and modernizing air traffic infrastructure. Over the weekend, flights remained reduced by 3% as airlines […]

Winkler was immediately detained and charged with aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft — a federal felony punishable by up to five years in prison. The affidavit noted that his actions posed a significant risk of flash blindness and pilot disorientation, particularly during low-altitude flight in the busy Washington, D.C. airspace near other helicopters and landmarks such as the Washington Monument. “This placed Marine One at risk of an airborne collision,” the […]
