WAEC Closes Adventist Day SHS Exam Centre in Kumasi Over Phone Seizures
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has closed the Adventist Day Senior High School examination centre in Kumasi after several mobile phones were seized from candidates during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi, said at a press briefing on Friday, September 5, 2025, that the decision was taken to protect the integrity of the exams. The affected students have since been relocated to WAEC’s regional office in Kumasi, where they will continue their papers under strict supervision. This closure adds to a series of malpractice cases recorded in this year’s WASSCE, with at least 14 teachers, students, and invigilators arrested nationwide for their involvement. WAEC has assured the public that results from all implicated centres will undergo rigorous scrutiny before final publication.
