Volta Region’s Movie Industry Needs Investment to Thrive.

The movie industry in the Volta Region has been struggling for years, lacking the investment and public interest needed for growth. Stakeholders, including Eunice Dake, Festival Director of the Wova International Film Festival, attribute this stagnation to a lack of financial backing and insufficient understanding of the business side of filmmaking. Dake emphasized the region’s potential and the importance of using the Ewe language properly in films to attract both local and international audiences.Efforts are being made to revive the industry, including organizing training and masterclasses for local filmmakers, as well as exchange programs with global industry professionals. The Wova International Film Festival showcased films like Black Morning, Half the Pain, and Sesime, and aimed to inspire local talents and attract investors. Local actor Koku Lumor called for more awareness and quality improvements in filmmaking to push the industry forward.
