Towns in Ghana's Central Region, such as Cape Coast and Elmina, are at risk of water shortages due to illegal mining activities contaminating the Pra River. The Ghana Water Company warns that the Sekyere Hemang Water Treatment Plant is struggling to process enough water because of the river's high pollution levels.
